Where It All Began: SPAC Daily News

Shark Invest began as a YouTube Channel named SPAC Daily News. Drew & Ray were fascinated by the recent growth of SPACs and would discuss them on a regular basis. Early 2021 was the peak of the SPAC craze as many completed mergers turned into huge companies such as Virgin Galactic and so on.


What is a SPAC?

Prior to 2021, there were very few Special Purpose Acquisition Companies. Drew perfectly explains the world of SPACs in one of the earliest videos on the channel.


SPAC Daily Growth

After only 6 days of publishing the first video on the channel, Drew created an absolute "BANGER" of a video which went on to rack up over 1,000 views. Gaining views as a new channel with no subscribers is extremely difficult, let alone amassing over 1,000 views this early on. The video was centred around one of the most popular SPACs; Pershing Square Tontine Holdings which is led by Bill Ackman.



Most people would think a video that has 1,000 views is nothing, but to the creators of a new channel, it can be extremely motivating. The early stage growth and success of SPAC Daily can be attributed to Drew's natural skill for seeing trends before they happen. He knew about PSTH before the world began talking about them and he uncovered Bill Ackman's second SPAC PSTB before anyone on the internet even mentioned it. This natural talent would present itself time and time again throughout the journey of SPAC Daily and all the way through to Shark Invest.


Continuous Improvement

Over the course of the next few months, Drew & Ray dove deep within the SPAC community and harnessed multiple free promotional channels to grow the subscriber base. The Japanese philosophy of Kaizen kicked in and the boys knew they had to up their game. They identified a strategy that worked and used it to build a foundation of just over 100 subscribers.


It was at this point when they realized that the content being delivered was far too superior to the production value that was being delivered. It was time to pump the breaks and work on a new studio setup. Drew whipped together a new setup in record time all while teaching himself about hardware, software and everything in between.



Pivot


It was also during this time when Drew & Ray began to discuss pivoting the channel to focus more on general business, finance and investing. After going all SPAC crazy for a few months, the hype seemed to die down and SPACs began to waver along with their interest in the topic. The discussion of a pivot spanned many weeks until the perfect brand name hit drew like a sack of bricks.


Shark Invest


The name Shark Invest was perfect. It was general, catchy and sharky all at the same time. The first video published under the Shark Invest brand was a simple reaction video to the original Dogecoin promotional video. Out with the old, stale and boring SPACs and in with the new, innovative, hilariously geeky topics that are constantly on Drew & Ray's minds.



This would officially mark the end of the SPAC Daily journey and begin the next chapter of Shark Invest. It got off to a rocky start since the subscriber base was there for SPAC Daily content and all of the free promotional channels were rendered useless. But sometimes in order to successfully navigate the correct path, you must take two steps forward and one step back.
